PROMOTER Frank Warren may
have missed his opportunity to
make Enzo Maccarinelli-David
Haye when negotiations first took
place earlier this year.
Although Warren and Haye's camp blamed
each other for the clash of heavy hitters not
going ahead on the April Joe Calzaghe-Pete
Manfredo bill at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium,
Frank wrote in his News of the World column last
Sunday that he'd made a revised offer.
Warren said he would pay Haye a "careerbest"
purse for a one-fight deal - what David's
camp insisted they wanted all along - to
challenge WBO champ Maccarinelli on
Frank's next Cardiff show 0uly 21).
HECTOR CAMACHO was sentenced
to seven years on Monday for
breaking into a computer shop.
However, six years of that
sentence were suspended and the
judge said the Macho Man could
serve the other year under house
arrest in his native Puerto Rico,
pending the agreement of Puerto
Rican police.
DUKE McKENZIE, Croydon's former
three-weight 'world' champion, rang
us a week ago to pass on his birthday
wishes to Mickey Duff.
Duff, McKenzie's manager for most
of his career, turned 78 on June 7.
The amazing thing is that when
McKenzie went pro, he had a list of
managers and Duff was last on that
list. He saw Frank Warren, Mike
Barrett, Burt McCarthy, Terry
Lawless, Gary Davidson -
without any takers.
