IT was all looking as if the hot cruiserweight
showdown between WBO champion Enzo
Maccarinelli and European king David Haye
was at last going to take place.
They were going to meet on the Joe
Calzaghe-Peter Manfredo bill at Cardiffs
Millennium Stadium on April 7.
Frank Warren even went so far as to say the
match was practically a done deal in his News
of the World column last Sunday.
Adam Booth, Haye's manager and trainer,
had called me earlier last week to say the match
was on - that he'd accepted a counter-offer
from Warren for a one-fight deal worth
£125,000 and £50,000 in ticket money.

HBO announcer Jim Lampley was
arrested and charged last week
with suspected domestic abuse
involving his girlfriend.
Lampley was also held not only for
suspicion of violating a restraining
order, but dissuading a witness.
The 57-year-old has been bailed.
His girlfriend is a stunner - a
former Miss California.

FORMER Board of Control General Secretary
Ray Clarke OBE has been in the news for the
second time in recent months.
In October, Ray was Guest of Honour at
the annual dinner of the Croydon Ex-Boxers
Association, where he was presented with a
World Boxing Council Lifetime Achievement
Award for services to boxing.
The award was actually made in 2005, but
Ray was unable to attend the WBC Convention
in Madrid to collect it because of illness.
