RICKY HATTON'S clash with Jose
Luis Castillo will be televised live
in Britain on Setanta Sports
(pay-per-view).
It will be the first time that
Hatton has not been shown on Sky-
Sky did put in an offer, but it
was rejected. So did the BBC.
BUSY Belgian middleweight
ALEXANDER POLIZZI is taking a
break from boxing.
Polizzi was stopped by Paul
Smith in eight rounds on March
10 and was then floored by Czech
Tomas Kugler on April 15 -
although he got up to win.
Alexander feels he needs some
time to recuperate and will return
next season.
ANDREW GOLOTA joins TOMASZ
ADAMEK on a June 9 show in
Katowice, along with MATT ZEGAN.
Adamek's contract has,
according to a Polish paper, been
bought from Don King by a Swiss
company for $750,000 (US dollars).
Golota is said to have received
$250,000 to join this show and
not fight on Hammer Knockout's
May 26 card, also in Katowice.
Adamek was recently accused
of doping in a book, a bestseller
published in Poland called TOMASZ
ADAMEK - TRUE STORY.
The book, written by a former
member of Team Adamek, claims
Adamek was on steroids for
all major fights and falsified
documents while importing cars
from the US to Poland and has
connections to organised crime.
JERRY HJELTER, Secretary of the Midlands
Ex-Boxers Association, has informed me that
Cecil Young, one of the Midlands' greatest
boxing characters, died on April 22 after a
short illness. He was $6.
Cecil joined Warley ABC as a schoolboy
before progressing through to the senior ranks.
After the Second World War he became
involved in coaching and with the
administrative side of the club, working with
one of the Midlands' greatest coaches, Reg
Steele.
