WHO better to ask for a prediction
on the Barry Morrison-Colin Lynes
fight tonight than LENNY DAWS?
He has fought both, of course,
in gruelling bouts.
He said this week: "Tough one.
Morrison, probably, because he's
stronger, but it all depends on how
Colin is. I hear he's in top shape.
I'm sure he is. I'd like him to win."
Daws would like to meet the
winner. He reminded us that he
essentially lost to Morrison in
January by a point.
ANTONIO TARVER this week had
a serious dig for promoter Gary
Shaw ahead of his clash with
ELVIR MURIQI (see page 15).
Tarver boxes on the same show
tomorrow as rival light-heavy CHAD
DAWSON, so the two are obviously
being linked to a future fight.
But Tarver said this week: "The
man [Dawson] has just won the title
and got knocked down winning it.
They're pushing the guy too soon
and he'll end up being destroyed
like Jeff Lacy. Shaw's good at that."
JOHNNY NELSON came out of
retirement last weekend... but for
a charity match against Jos Battle,
28-year-old son of Leeds West MP
John Battle.
Proceeds went to charity. Battle
had never boxed in his life.
Nelson said recently he would
regret for the rest of his life not
being able to fight Enzo Maccarinelli,
whom he felt was made for him.
Nelson had to quit the game
when his knee gave way.
FRANCIS had the support of
fighters from the city's two other
professional stables.
Former Commonwealth fly number
one Lee Haskins - handled by Chris
Sanigar - and Tex Woodward's
teenage Bristol prospect Danny
Butler - fresh from maintaining
his unbeaten record in Birmingham
the previous night - were ringside.
Former local crowd-pleaser Darren
Dorrington was also among a packed
crowd.
