JOEL CASAMAY0R is fighting to
be reinstated as WBC lightweight
champion.
That organisation had stripped
him when Casamayor announced
he was going to box WB0 champ
ACELINO FREITAS in a rematch
instead of meeting interim holder
DAVID DIAZ.

RICHIE W00DHALL is running a new
gym that accommodates Ken
Purchase's fighters on the top floor
of Aston Villa Leisure Centre. It was
officially opened two weeks ago by
Ricky Hatton.
They haven't got a name for it yet
but matchmaker John Pegg says they
are thinking of calling it Fortress
Birmingham because it is on the top
floor.

GLENN CATLEY, as honest as
ever, confessed he had been badly
hurt in round two.
"He caught me with a thunderous
shot - boom, right on the button,"
said Glenn. "I had to really
concentrate to stay on my feet. It
wasn't until the fourth and fifth that
I got my head clear.
"But everybody gets hit - that's
boxing. What makes the difference
between those who get to the top
and those who don't is staying in
there. Thankfully, I managed to hang
in there and catch him in the end.
"Hopefully, now people will realise
I'm not in it for a quick buck."

BELGIUM'S Jackson Osei Bonsu won
the vacant European welterweight
title with an eighth-round stoppage
of French veteran N o r d i n e Mouchi.
"It was one of the best fights I've
ever seen," said Frank Maloney, who
promotes Osei Bonsu.
"Had it been in Britain it would
have been fight of the year - it made
Graham Earl-Michael Katsidis seem
like a walk in the park."
