SWANSEA veteran of 54 fights, Frank McCord, looked
as fresh and as strong as ever in disposing of outgunned
Junaid Musah in the seventh of a scheduled eight threes
at the King's Hall.
The irony was that, immediately prior to McCord's
final offensive, he had looked anxious and unsteady as
Musah, Manchester, applied his first meaningful pressure.
Musah, who lacked any rhythm or range, was
hustled out of his stride for long periods by the
short-hooking Welshman.
THE drums are beating for Tony Sibson again after a long
spell in the wilderness and there will undoubtedly be a big
turn-out to see him defend his Commonwealth middleweight
title against Ghanaian Abdul Umaru Sanda at
Alexandra Pavilion on Wednesday.
THE Alexandra bill sees the eagerly awaited comeback of a
second former world title challenger in Welshman Colin
Jones who gets back into the game with a scheduled
10-rounder against American Mike Hutchinson.
This will be Jones's first fight since his abortive challenge
against Don Curry for the WBA welterweight title just over
a year ago.
TEN years to the day after his last defeat there still isn't a middleweight
in the world to match Marvelous Marvin Hagler. The latest to try and fail
was John "The Beast" Mugabi, whose memorably brave challenge for
Hagler's undisputed world middleweight title ended after 1:29 of the
11th of a scheduled 12 rounds on a bitterly cold and rain-swept night at
Caesars Palace.
