NORTHOLT'S Andy Till can only have himself to blame for throwing away his chance of
fighting for the British light-middleweight title.
Till was disqualified in the third of his 12-round British title final eliminator for
blatantly hitting Manchester's Ensley Bingham ( l i s t ) over the back with his elbow, and
referee John Coyle was quite right to bring the fight to a halt with 95 seconds of the round
gone.
SOUTHERN AREA welterweight champion Trevor Smith
made a winning return to the ring after his British title
defeat by Kirkland Laing last March when he stopped
Barry's Alan Richards in the seventh of a scheduled eight
rounder, writes DANIEL HERBERT.
LIVERPOOL lightweight Nigel Wenton gets
the chance to restore his confidence when he
gets top billing at the Moat House, Telford
tonight (June 15).-
Wenton, outclassed by American hot prospect
Sharmba Mitchell in his last fight in April,
meets Hull's Tony Foster, who like Mitchell, is
a southpaw.
FORMER British featherweight champion Robert Dickie, who has a habit of disappearing
off the scene after a fight, is back in the gym in Swansea.
The Welsh-speaking Dickie, from Cross Hands, near Llanelli, did his customary
vanishing act after demolishing Coventry's Colin Lynch in the first round of their
scheduled eight-round contest at Swansea last December.
But he suddenly turned up recently for work at the gymnasium attached to manager
Colin Breen's house. Said his mentor: "Nothing about Robert surprises me. I am pleased to
see him back training, and once he is fully fit we'll be on the circuit again. That won't be
long because when he is here, Robert trains well. He is still ambitious and has the talent to
win more titles."
THE Marcos Villasana-Paul Hodkinson fight was certainly
exciting, full of drama and courage. However, there was
another side to it. Villasana took incredible punishment
and it is worrying to see a fighter who has already been
denied a licence for failing a neurological test, taking so
many head punches.
THE Norfolk season ended on a high note with Stalham &
Walsham's excellent dinner show at the Indoor Bowling
Club. One of the best bouts of the night saw David Reeve
(Lowestoft), a two-time loser to Jimmy Nichols in
previous contests, pull one

back when he edged out a
close decision over the
aggressive Aylsham
youngster via the majority
points route.
CHATHAM flyweight JOHN ARMOUR pulled off an
excellent performance when he won a gold medal in
the Canada Cup in Ottawa from J u n e 4-11.
Lightweight PATRICK GALLAGHER had to settle for
a silver medal when an arm injury ruled him out of
the final against his Cuban opponent. None of the
four other English boxers made it into the medal
stages. Full details to follow.
MALMESBURY ABC wound up their season with a
tremendous 13 bout dinner show at Goldiggers' Night Club
when five of the host club's boxers recorded wins.
Schoolboys Barry Needs and Matthew Spurway both
scored inside the distance victories against their respective
Bronx opponents J e s s i e Barnes and John Peart,
whilst Nat "Kid" McGuire had a first round win over
Danny Meadows (Viking).
