NIGEL WRIGHT has hit out at
British lightweight champion
Anthony Crolla after a fight
between the pair fell through.
When Gavin Rees pulled out of
his scheduled challenge to Crolla
on the April 16 Amir Khan-Paul
McCloskey Manchester show,
having injured his nose, Wright, a
former English champ and British
title challenger at light-welter, was
one of a handful of alternatives
sounded out.

BRADLEY PRYCE has aborted his
welterweight experiment and
insists he will be a completely
different fighter back at his
favoured l i s t . The Welshman's
surprising drop down in weight,
at the age of 29, brought mixed
fortunes, with a stoppage of Ted
Bami soon followed by a points
loss to Colin lynes. The man
from Bridgend, now 30 and still
with trainer Gary Lockett, is keen
to get back into championship
contention in the light-middle
division, where he used to hold
the Commonwealth belt.

THE Northamptonshire EBA 30th Anniversary
get-together was a great success. Secretary Pam
Ward told me: "We had a wonderful day, thanks
to around 160 visitors from the Brighton,
Eastern Counties, Home Counties, Ipswich,
Leicester and London Associations. And of
course our own members.
"We have so many people to thank for our
successful day - everyone who made the effort
to attend, yourself in advertising it in 'Diary
Dates', and also Northamptonshire Community
Foundation for their support.
"There was a good mixture of professional
and amateur boxers, and some lovely stories.
And there was a well-received talk from former
BBBC General Secretary John Morris regarding
local boxers.

THE Combined Services Championships
at the new Combat Centre in Aldershot
on March 10 saw the Army triumph
for the 28th year in a row. They beat the
Royal Navy 9-4 with the RAF having no
entry after Chris Kelly dropped out.
Action was beamed live on the
Internet via the Hatton website, also
via satellite to British servicemen and
women in Afghanistan and all over the
world on British Forces Broadcasting
(BFBS). Among the guests was Beijing
Olympic champion James DeGale,
whose Tenerife training camp the
soldiers had shared in preparation for
this event.
