A HOMETOWN decision in Washington! I hope Amir Khan
Learns his Lesson - never Look past your opponent. If Amir can
get an immediate rematch he will take care of Peterson and
then Launch an assauLt on the welters, although this Loss could
have permanently removed him from Floyd Mayweather's radar.
Benn's part in the first bout created a modern classic
but the defeat irked him like no other. Fuelled by
hatred, Nigel produced a disciplined performance that
highlighted - not for the first time - he was so much
more than a primitive slugger. The draw was the least
he deserved.
FOLLOWING his November loss
to Ricky Burns at Wembley,
Toowoomba s Michael Katsidis
has split with long-time trainer and
manager Brendon Smith to join
forces with Jeff Fenech, the former
three-weight world champion, and
Vlad Warton. Katsidis spent some
time training at Freddie Roach's
Wild Card Gym after his defeat to
Burns but was excited by Fenech's
plans for him. The Australian, who
is keen to stay in America to train
and no longer prepare in Thailand,
is hoping to be back in the ring
by April at the latest. Katsidis
has expressed an interest in
challenging WBC light-welterweight
champion Erik Morales.
WHEN Kelly Pavlik pulled out of his
August bout against Darryl Cunningham
four days before it was scheduled to
take place, many boxing observers
believed that this signalled the end of
the Youngstown man's career. However,
his promoters have decided to give the
former middleweight king one final shot
at rebuilding himself in the sport.
"I'm moving to California on Top
Rank's advice," Pavlik revealed. "They
have faith in me, so they're giving me a
second chance. They want me to take a
new direction and train with someone
else, so I'm going to work with Robert
Garcia."
