OBVIOUSLY we know from history that
some father-son boxing relationships
work and some don't. It's that way with
most things. There are precedents there
that show you that it can work and
some that that show you that it doesn't.
Sometimes it works at the expense of a
personal relationship, which is much more
important than a professional career - a
relationship between a father and son.
That's been proven, too. Sometimes it
works on both fronts, or sometimes it
does not at all. It's a difficult situation and
it's not a 'normal' one. It's not a normal
situation because when you're a father,
your most important priority in every
aspect is to protect your child. That's the
most natural thing there is in the world,
JAMIE MCDONNELL and Stuart Hall put on a cracking fight
and a great start to the new season. I've been watching Jamie
since he first turned pro in around 2005 and since he has
teamed up with Dave Hulley and Stefy Bull he's improved
immensely. They have certainly turned his career around. His
defence and movement were brilliant. Keep up the good work
and please bring a world championship home to Doncaster.
SAD to hear about the death of Derek
Lloyd, the former head coach of Waltham
Forest ABC {BN Sept 1). Derek trained
many young boys throughout the years and
I too trained with him as a young person
way back in the middle 1980s and 1990s.
Not only did Derek teach some of the
basic boxing techniques, he also taught
discipline, respect, loyalty, patience and to
have a good attitude towards other trainers,
rivals or team members.
Derek will be sadly missed but not
forgotten.
FORMER WBO featherweight king Scott
Harrison was released from prison this
week and is ready to get back in the ring.
"The Real McCoy" held the WBO belt in
two spells before his life hit a downward
spiral leading to his checking into the
Priory Clinic to get help for alcohol
problems and depression.
