Boxing News Magazine 2011 Memorabilia

NOW the dust has settled, what a contrast
of two middleweight greats.
Firstly Bernard Hopkins at 46 goes
into champion Jean Pascal's backyard of
Montreal and not only gets the title back
but boxes a great technical fight against
a guy who gave Carl Froch such an
interesting argument a few years ago.
How remarkable to see the rather unique
ring entrance of Bernard having his own
song coupled with him having the strength
on at least two occasions to start doing
push-ups against a guy half his age. Does
Bernard have anything left to prove? I don't
think so; maybe it's the perfect time to say,
"That's all, folks".

DAVID HAYE has called on the services
of Liverpool's David Price to help
prepare him for his unification battle with
Wladimir Klitschko.
It's clear why Price is useful sparring -
his 6ft 8ins height equates to the gigantic
Ukrainian. The Davids have sparred before
but Price felt a change in the WBA titlist.
"He's heavyweight champion of the
world now. I could see an improvement.
But he could see the improvements in me
as well. With David you can't afford to
switch off at any time," noted
Price.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JNR
announced, just as we were going
to press, that he will return to
action on September 17 against
WBC welterweight champion Victor
Ortiz
"My fans have been waiting long
enough," Floyd said via his Twitter
page before giving the date and
Ortiz's name. Victor, a southpaw like
Manny Pacquiao, claimed the title
that once belonged to Floyd [above]
in April when he upset Andre Berto.
Both fighters are promoted by
Golden Boy and so, in theory, the
fight should be straightforward to
make. But it's still a long way to go
until September.

He changed all that with an electric
performance against Weaver last
November. Campbell, a southpaw, used
height, range and style to bring Iain onto
his shots and score an emphatic victory.
"I wanted to establish myself as the
number one again," the bantamweight
happily recalled. "I established that pretty
well then. I took him apart."
Weaver has since moved up to
lightweight. "Fair play to him, he's a
very good fighter and he trains hard. He
just got the best [international] boxer
[prize] at a tournament at 60 kilos," said
Campbell.
