LAMONT PETERSON has urged Amir
Khan to disregard other potential
WBA light-welterweight title
challengers and fight h im in April.
Speaking before Z a b Judah agreed
to face South Africa's Kaizer Mabuza
for the vacant IBF belt at the Prudential
Center in Newark on March 5, Peterson
emphasised his superiority over both
the veteran and Khan conqueror
Breidis Prescott, who has lost twice —
once to Kevin Mitchell - since wrecking
Amir in 54 seconds over two years ago.
Peterson, having taken WBO lOst king
Tim Bradley the 12-round distance and
coming off a draw with touted Victor
Ortiz on the same bill as Amir's heroic
victory over Marcos Maidana last
month, appears to be the best bet for a
showdown likely to happen in the UK.

CHAD DAWSON, who is preparing
for a contracted rematch with
sole conqueror JEAN PASCAL,
has replaced trainer Eddie
Mustafa Muhammad with Kronk
legend Emanuel Steward.
"Everyone knows before
the fight Chad had personal
problems," Muhammad
remarked. I didn't want him
to go through with it."

FANS and pundits alike enthusiastically
support the tournament concept,
realised in recent times by the supermiddleweight
Super Six and the
four-man bantamweight competition
featuring Abner Mares and friends.
In theory, the best fighters in their
division oppose each other and if
the last man standing has all of the
available 'world' title belts on offer, so
much the better.
Now the l i s t weight-class looks to
be following suit and that could spell
good news for Sheffield's former
European champion Ryan Rhodes.
With Manny Pacquiao poised to
relinquish his WBC light-middleweight
crown to meet Shane Mosley at welter,

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JNR is not
the only fighter to benefit from
having a famous father. RONALD
HEARNS, son of legendary
Detroit "Hitman" Thomas,
challenges FELIX STURM for the
WBA "Super" title at
middleweight on February 19 at
the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart.
Hearns is 26-1 (20) but has yet
to defeat a ranked contender
and beat a fighter with a losing
record last time out.

DWIGHT QAWI, former WBC
light-heavyweight champ who had
a limited amateur pedigree but
learned from Briscoe in the gyms:
"I'll tell you, I came into the gym a
street fighter, I was a street guy and
wanted to dance around. He came
in and bobbed in and hit me with a
body shot and it slowed me down.
From then on, I changed my style.
He was always joking with you,
always had humour. He was just an
easy-going guy who didn't sweat
the small stuff. He loved boxing and
he was inspirational to me. He was
an icon in Philadelphia. He came to
rumble. He was a fighter's fighter."
