BUNNY BIDS TO MAKE THE BELT HIS OWN

Prince Rodney lasts the pace

Britain wants 15-rounder

TOM DALY once told me: "We were having a New Year's Party at Toby
Noble's Club and these three lads came in looking for trouble. So I pointed out
to them that the rules of the club did not permit fighting on the premises, but
if they liked to come outside, I'd take them on, one after the other.
"Well, we went into the street and started with the ringleader and we had a
very nice fight. When he had had enough, all three cleared off and I went back
inside to see the New Year in.

JOHNNY McGRORY (right) arrives in London to begin training for his
1937 fight with world champion Petey Sarron. He could have done with
the hat and coat when he arrived, coatless, from sunny California to attend
the Board's Jubilee last month.

THE match between Birmingham's GLENN
McEWAN and Huddersfield's PRINCE RODNEY
was, in my estimation, the finest contest
of the year, with the Northerner's lasting
stamina gaining him the edge over a capable
but obviously ring-rusty Midlander.

THE MIDLAND fight reporter's diary is pretty full,
nowadays. Over the past 18 months, established
centres at Wolverhampton and Leicester have been
augmented with new boxing venues at places like
Bedworth, Burslem and Evesham.
