THE RUSSIANS STILL RULE!
Mcleod battles on for Sparta
BRITISH lightweight champion
Charlie Nash tunes up for his big
chance, a crack at the vacant
European title, with a routine
10-rounder against American
import Ernest Bing at the World
Sporting Club on Monday.
EUROPEAN welterweight champion Dave
Green tuned up impressively for next month's
title defence against Jorgen Hansen with a
smooth eight rounds stoppage of willing
punch-catcher Rafael Rodriguez, a Mexican
fighting out of Minneapolis, in the main event
at Wembley Conference Centre,
JOHN CONTEH, former WBC light-heavyweight
champion, gets some badly needed fight form when
he takes on American Ivy Brown in a 10-rounder at
the Anglo-American Sporting Club's Liverpool
branch at the Adelphi Hotel on June 4.
Tliere will be live transmission on TV of the bout although
the Adelphi is a members only venue. It will be similar to the
Conteh v Jesse Burnett fight at the Anglo-American club in
London, also televised live.
Conteh disappointed with a draw against Burnett (who
fights Mate Parlov in a final eliminator for the WBC's new
mid-heavyweight division in Monte Carlo on the Spinks-
Coetzee bill).
Brown is moderate opposition but Conteh needs to ease
his way back in again before taking on new champion
Matthew Franklin.
