THE promotional dream of a lucrative all-Scottish world title showdown
between Ken Buchanan and Jim Watt was controversially destroyed at the
emotion-charged Brondbyhallen.
Buchanan, spurred on by the sentimental support of a capacity 7,000-strong
crowd, saw his comeback plans crumble after failing to gain the European title
from southpaw champion Charlie Nash.

UGANDAN light-middleweight sensation Ayub Kalule
unexpectedly had to settle for a points victory in his
world title clash with Ameircan Steve Gregory.
The Danish-based WBA champion was never extended,
however, by the courageous but technically limited Gregory
and seemed content to treat the one-sided affair as a showpiece
for the magnificent skills which have made him an idol in Denmark.

DANISH fans hoping for a spectacular
display of power-punching from veteran
European champion Jorgen Hansen in his
long-awaited return with Austrian Josef
Pachler were sadly, but surely, disappointed,

PAUL COULSTON of St. Aldhem's receives the
Boxing News Silver Ring trophy from former
world champ John Stracey at the recent "Old
Ben" tournament in Bournemouth.

WAYNE BARKER pushed his unbeaten
record as a professional to eight fights
when he beat Liverpool's Chris Glover in
an intriguing top of the bill contest at
Manchester's Anglo-American Sporting Club.

THE Midland's Area Council are continuing their fight to stop
Wapping's JIMMY FLINT from getting a straight shot at the
British featherweight title.
Members feel that Flint should take part in an eliminator
before meeting champion PAT COWDELL, from Warley.
Cowdell's manager, Ron Gray, said: "Flint would not face
Cowdell in an eliminator last year, so why should he be given a
straight fight now. He has gained top contender status simply
on the strength of his performance against foreign opponents.
But Terry Lawless is adament that his fighter is the best in the
division and points out: "I think the majority of boxing fans
know that Jimmy is the only legitimate challenger.
