Smooth Mwalo crushes Tank
Knoetze hopes are wrecked
I WON'T QUIT, SAYS BRISCOE
GILBODY BOYS WIN AGAIN
IT HAS been over a month since this reporter returned from Indianapolis
following Matthew Saad Muhammad's majestically violent victory over i
brave Marvin Johnson, but the memories linger on.
It was the sort of fight that will be remembered for generations to come as a
brutal example of blood and guts prize-fighting at its best. Both men fought
with every ounce of strength and courage that their supremely conditioned
bodies could muster.
JOHN CONTEH boosted his flagging
spirits but didn't look anything like a
world title contender in easily outpointing
the very limited American
Ivy Brown at the Anglo-American
Sporting Club.
FROM the sound of his surname you might think that Eddy Melo is a young
man of a quiet, peaceful nature, full of kindness to his fellow human beings,
and a gentle soul at heart.
However, a more accurate assessment of young Mr Melo can be drawn from
the nickname given to him by fight fans in Montreal. To them Eddy is
"L'Ouragan - The Hurricane," and it reflects to perfection the impact Eddy,
has had on both his opponents and the boxing public in Montreal.
IT'S tough on competition secretaries when they are hit
with late withdrawals, but Downham's Harry Gregory
solved the problem well at his tournament at Lewisham
Concert Hall, where supporters were treated to a first
class show.
THE SUPERFIGHT goes on: that's the
message from Madison Square Garden
where modern great ROBERTO DURAN
takes his first big step into the welterweight
division against former WBC
champ CARLOS PALOMINO in a June 22 12-rounder.
