HOPE MEETS HERRERA

CINDERELLA MAN Mike Weaver dug deep into his
extraordinary reserves of durability and courage to make
a successful first defence of his WBA heavyweight title
against South African challenger Gerrie Coetzee, who
was within a punch of victory for most of the eighth

representatives Keith Wallace, Ray Gilbody, Tony Willis and Nick Wilshire.

featherweight showdown between Ireland's Barry McGuigan, 19, and Pete
Hanlon, 21, of England, won conclusively on points by McGuigan before a slightly
bigger crowd at the Conference Centre.

VICTOR GALINDEZ, former WBA light-heavyweight champion from
Argentina, was killed last weekend in a motor accident near Santa Fe.
Galindez was in a car race with a friend when their vehicle broke down. On their

Galindez was a two-time WBA light-heavy champion, losing the title to Mike
Rossman, then whipping Rossman in a rematch
