DANISH veteran Jorgen Hansen retained his European
welterweight crown with an almost effortless win over
Belgium's official challenger Alois Carmeliet, who failed
to answer the bell for the sixth round. The Belgian had
not been down, but with his face in a terrible state, the
ringside doctor ruled him unfit to continue much to
Carmeliet's relief, I suspect, because to say that he had
respect for Hansen would be the understatement of the
year.
BRITISH featherweight champion Pat Cowdell
pits his boxing skills against the power punching of
official challenger Jimmy Flint at the Albert Hall
on Tuesday.

defend his title against big punching Colin Jones.
Ward is a durable opponent, who has proved his ability against the
country's top light-middleweights.
THE DEATH of Sunderland middleweight star Jack
Casey ends an era of top-class middles that included Len
Harvey, Jock McAvoy and Archie Sexton, all of whom
have passed on. In recent years he had spent long
periods in hospital, and had lost a lot of weight. He was 70.
