ITALIAN lightweight Antonio
Puddu beat Britisher Colin
Lake, the bout being stopped at the
end of the seventh round at
Cagliari, to the obvious disappointment
of Lake.
While there was no disputing
that Puddu was ahead at the time,
Lake had given a good account of
himself, and at the time of the
stoppage Paddu had sustained an
eye injury that looked as if it could
have proved serious.
In the seventh round Lake was
caught by a Puddu swing, went
down, but got up immediately to
take a standing " eight " count. At
the end of the session the referee
stopped it.
TERRY QUARRY knocked out England's Brian London at 2:30 of the
" second round at Oakland and then made good on his promise by
announcing it was his final fight. Quarry, the 24-year-old Bellflower, California,
heavyweight who lost in title fights to Jimmy Ellis and Joe Frazier
said more than a month ago that his fight with London would be his last,
so that he could concentrate on his acting career.
