Scots Back In Junior Title Race
ABA champion Howard Hayes
(Plant Works) took time off
from diesel-fitting in Doncaster
to make a 360-mile
round-trip to Manor Place Baths,
Walworth and provide a convincing
demonstration to the
promoting club's Mickey Kingwell
(Robert Browning) of just
why he is the No 1 lightweight
in the Land.
TOHN GILLIGAN, Mick Dowling and
Ned Hendricks, who were all
winners for Dublin in their 7-3
victory over London at the Royal
Albert Hall last December, will be on

London at the National Stadium on
December 12.
Re your edition of October 24, T.
Parnham of Swindon wrote
of Ricky Porter vs Charles.
May I endorse the remarks and
add that had Ricky waited 12
months before turning pro he may
well have been champion now.
I speak from experience having
trained Ricky in Swindon and do
honestly feel that he should have
gone for the ABAs before turning
pro.
Ricky is a great lad, a first rate
sportsman, and will be the first to
admit that I tried really hard to
get him to stay in the amateur
ranks a little longer.
