PLAINFIELD'S Tracy "Slam Bam" Spann, 27-1, rated
No. 2 by the IBF, returned to action at the Dunn Sports
Centre with a three round win over Darryl Richardson
of Portsmouth, Virginia.
Spann had been inactive since June when he suffered
a disputed loss to former IBF featherweight king Jorge
Paez and in Richardson he faced the Virginia State
light-welterweight champion who, despite having faced
world-rated opposition like Sharmba Mitchell, Tony
Martin and John-John Molina, had a mediocre 12-14
record.

the more lurid claims of the abolitionists, mercifully few
professional fighters have to meet the kind of challenge which faces
Chris Eubank tomorrow night at Birmingham's National Indoor
Arena as he returns to the ring for the first time since the Michael
Watson catastrophe cast its shadow over the sport itself and over
Eubank's continued participation in it.
