LES STEVENS, Reading (13-91) showed ruthless
hitting to stop black American Mike Boswell,
Philadelphia (14-3) in the fourth of their scheduled
eight rounds main event at the World Sporting
Club.
IT was great to see Joe Bugner come good at last.
I say this because though I expected Joe to improve
considerably after winning my three titles,
I, like many others, was disappointed that he
showed little improvement afterwards.

DON COCKELL, the former Battersea blacksmith, will mostly be remembered
for his brave losing stand against world heavyweight champion Rocky
Marciano in San Francisco. The fight, on May 16, 1955, was stopped in the
ninth when Don finally wilted after being mauled and battered.
TOMMY COLLINS was a tough fighter, a promising
featherweight whose flailing fists drew hordes
into the famed Boston Gardens. One by ^ne he
licked them fighters like Fabela Chavez, Lauro
Sales, Willie Pep and Britain's Ronnie Clayton.
FORMER Scottish welterweight champion John Barrowman (Valley) put
up a good display to outpoint Terry Schofield (Shildon) on the Valley ABC
show, Blairhall Miners' Welfare, Fife despite a knee injury sustained the
same day.
WAYNE EVANS, Waterlooviile's exciting light-flyweight
prospect, powered his way to an impressive third round
win over experienced Jimmy Ellis (Leatherhead) on the
Waterlooville show at Kimbles Ballroom, Southsea.
