EVERY BRITISH FIGHTER RATED:

Galvano corner tricks fail to save his title

Meldrick intends to look outstanding against Espana

Qawi and Miller meet at the crossroads

Ayers to overpower Aussie

WHOEVER it was who said you have to knock out
an Italian in Italy to get a draw wasn't far off the
mark after watching Nigel Benn so nearly robbed
of his third round retirement victory against home
favourite Mauro Galvano at the local Ice Rink.

WELSH southpaw Darron Griffiths emerged as a British
middleweight title contender by outboxing dangerous
Leeds puncher, Colin Manners in an absorbing 10-round
official eliminator at the Midlands Sporting Club.

SCOTLAND'S long custom of producing classy fighting
"wee men" looks to have unearthed another boxer in the
Caledonian tradition.
The latest 8st prospect to emerge from the prolific
Scottish conveyor belt system and gain rave notices is
mighty Ayrshire mite Paul Weir.

THE headline was about as subtle as a left hook to
the groin: "Is Meldrick Taylor Shot?" asked The Ring
magazine. And though the article favoured fancy
footwork over a definitive opinion, the overall tone
was highly negative. A follow-up piece in the Philadelphia
Daily News echoed the same theme and reached
basically the same conclusion: Taylor is ready for
the knacker's yard.

AT THE October meeting of the London Ex-Boxers' Association
it was announced that for the first time ever there would be a
Christmas get-together of members and wives. It will be held
immediately following the normal monthly meeting on December
6 at the Finsbury Leisure Centre. One reason is because
this is LEBA's 21st Anniversary Year, another that not every
member attends the Annual Dinner/Dance, which takes place
on November 20.
