Boxing News 1972 Memorabilia

JOE BUGNER has finally delivered the goods!
The blond giant from St Ives brought a packed
Albert Hall to its feet by knocking out Germany's
Jurgen Blin in the eighth round to bring the European
heavyweight title back to Britain.

I FEEL after reading so much nonsense about the Foster v Finnegan fight
that I must voice my opinion. I was at the ringside and saw Foster win every
round but four, which were even.

DANNY O'SULLIVAN, from Finsbury Park, was the last Londoner to win
the British bantamweight title. He took the vacant championship with a
nine-rounds win over Teddy Gardner, of West Hartlepool, at the Albert
Hall on December 13, 1949.

GYPSY Johnny Frankham, the "clown prince" of British boxing, who
sometimes turns crowds on — or off, depending on tastes—with his amazing
antics in the ring is, he insists, a serious performer.

FRANKIE LUCAS, ABA middleweight champion from Croydon's Sir Philip
Game club, has had a change of heart about turning pro. It now appears
definite that Lucas, a big-punching so uthpaw, will continue campaigning as
an amateur.

ENGLISH international light-flyweight Terry Wenton
(Golden Gloves) last season's A.B.A. semi-finalist, made a
fine start to the season by notching a majority win over
18-year-old Dcncaster flyweight Eric Wood (Tom Hill) on
his club's annual show at Ford's Social Club, Cronton.

HARTCLIFFE welter Bob Dorrington, favourite to succeed new
pro Kevin White as Western Counties champion, gained his
second win of the season with a points victory on the National
Smelting Company promotion at St. Stephen's Church Hall,
Southmead.
Dorrington gave away 81b, to smart-jabbing Smelters' lightmiddle
Alec Hamilton, but worked his way inside the taller
man's guard to crack in some punishing combos and land a
unanimous verdict.
