CHAVEZ ENTHRALLS RECORD   136,000 CROWD

McKay and Murphy is a real 50-50 battle

Cole corn beat the rough and tough Grant

Seldom makes it hard work

SO EASY FOR McCLELLAN

ON THE ABA CHAMPIONSHIP TRAIL

MAGNIFICENT Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez (left) retained
his WBC light-welterweight title and took his remarkable
winning run to 85 in front of a record-breaking crowd with a
brutal fifth round victory over Greg Haugen last weekend.
Now, the only challenge that remains is a catchweight duel
with WBC light-middleweight champion Terry Norris,
another thoroughly impressive winner on the show. Read Daniel
Herbert's special five-page ringside coverage inside.

STREATHAM favourite Lou Gent delighted a packed
Leisure Centre by clearly outpointing defending
champion Hunter Clay to take the WBC International
super-middleweight title.

Plenty of WBC International title action coming up. Jimmy
Joseph defends his light-heavyweight crown against South
African Ginger Tshabalala, Zambian Paul Kaoma is scheduled
to fight for the vacant super-bantamweight title in
Lusaka, Chartchai Sasakul defends his flyweight title
against Russian Alex Mahmutov in Bangkok and Ronnie
Magramo faces Andy Tabanas for the vacant strawweight
crown. A truly international cross-section.

IF it's possible to be humiliated in victory, that's what befell Atlantic City heavyweight
Bruce Seldon en route to a seven-round stoppage over A1 Shoffner at
McGonigle Hall.
The heavily-favoured well-muscled Seldon floored the flabby Shoffner four
times before Al's corner mercifully retired him for the night at the end of the seventh.
But it was the 31-year-old Philadelphian journeyman who won the hearts of
the crowd and received a $500 bonus from the promoter for this masochistic display
of bravery.
