EAST-ENDER Roy Rowland (l0st lOlbs) could probably
argue that in 24 professional fights he has yet
to suffer a legitimate defeat. He was stopped for the
third time, again because of a clash of heads, and
left the ring after the fifth round of his fight with
Hull's Peter Waudby (l0st 121bs) with his head
wrapped in a towel.

 

RICHIE WENTON'S attempt to please the crowd of
his adopted home town ended in eight frustrating
rounds spent chasing late substitute Des Gargano in
front of a sellout 800-strong crowd at the Culm Valley
Sports Centre.
What was planned as a marvellous night for Wenton
finished as a satisfactory start to the enterprising
campaign to make a boxing base in this small
Devon town just off the M5.

 

ZETLAND ABC's light-middleweight BIAGIO FALCONE
(featured in Boxing News last Xmas) blasted his way
into Eastern District title contention before a packed
audience in Dalkeith Miners Club when he stopped
Kingdom, Kirkcaldy's bigJiitting ROGER SUMMERS.
Summers, a tall rangy banger, takes no ring prisoners
but it was Scots-Italian Falcone who twice landed first with
big head shots, spilling a bemused Summers onto the canvas
for a first round stoppage.

 

BRITISH and Commonwealth light-welterweight champion
Andy Holligan is considering an offer to challenge
undefeated Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez
for the WBC title in Las Vegas on December 11.
Holligan, rated No.6, was made the offer last week
and his promoter Frank Warren said they were considering
it, but would only accept it for "very good
money". Warren described the match as "90 per
cent certain" to take place.
