A RALLYING CRY ON BEHALF OF SCHOOLBOY BOXING

WEST London lightweight Michael Ayers steps up in
class to challenge for the WBO championship in
what are almost certain to be difficult surroundings
against Italian golden boy Giovanni Parisi in Rome
tonight (Friday).
Parisi, 25, won the featherweight gold medal at the 1988
Olympic Games In Seoul. He became a " world" professional
champion last September when he climbed off the deck
to stop Mexico's Javier Altamirano in 10 rounds in Voghera.
Formerly the Italian lightweight champion, Parisi also
showed his class when he chopped down Mark Anthony
Smith in four rounds in January this year. Smith, from Oklahoma,
had previously taken British light-welterweight
champion Andy Holligan the full 10.

LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT puncher Mickey Hughes has it all to
fight for at Brentwood on Tuesday (April 20) when he challenges
Leicester's Shaun "The Guvnor" Cummins for the Penta-
Continental title.
Having lost his Commonwealth crown in his first defence to
former world welterweight king Lloyd Honeyghan at Tuesday's
venue in January, Hughes has been given a last opportunity to
rescue his career.

A PASSIONATE atmosphere is guaranteed as tough
old warrior John Davison finally gets his shot at the
big time tomorrow (Saturday).
Davison challenges for the World Boxing Organisation
featherweight crown held by Colombian Ruben
Palacio in front of his own people at the Northumbria
Centre, Washington, Tyne and Wear.

IN perhaps the finest outing of his pro career,
Charles "The Natural" Murray won a unanimous
10-round decision over highly competent Tony Martin,
thereby ensuring his May 15 date with Rockin'
Rodney Moore for the vacant IBF light-welterweight
title.
