BRISTOL southpaw Ross Hale (lOst) moved a step nearer a British
light-welterweight title challenge when Watford's Carlos Chase (lOst)
retired after the eighth of their scheduled 10-rounds eliminator at the
Arms Park.
Hale's power was ]ust too much for Chase to handle. After a good
first round, Carlos slowly fell apart, going down a dozen times - several
from slips on the wet canvas, but also suffering no fewer than five
knockdowns.
By the end of round eight - in which the Watford man slipped
three times, touching down twice - Chase was way behind on points
and was retired by his corner (it was originally announced that he
had pulled himself out). Referee Mickey Vann accepted the retirement.
