WHITAKER ROBBED OF HIS GLORY AT THE ALAMO

Hugo's just happy to be here

If looks like the end for Wally

Humberto's stone hands have turned to clay

Whitaker tames a legend - then he's robbed

Professor Azumah is still top of the class

De La Hoya's still unbeaten

HOLLIGAN JOINS WARREN

WHEN Pat Barrett saw Nottingham's Del Bryan
wreck the undefeated record of Panamanian Oscar
Checa at the Ulster Hall in Belfast in May, Barrett
was all too aware that it should have been him
instead celebrating victory. He had been offered the
fight initially, but it was one of several 1993 engagements
which, for a variety
of reasons, he has
not fulfilled.

EUROPEAN welterweight champion Gary Jacobs
defends his title for the first time against Frenchman
Daniel Bicchieray at Wembley Grand Hall on Wednesday
(September 22).

GLASGOW'S Peter Bradley has another chance to work his way on to the British
title scene when he meets Paul Charters in a light-welterweight eliminator at the
St.Andrews Sporting Club on Monday (September 20).
Bradley was beaten on points by Paul Burke back in January 1991, the last time
he fought in an eliminator, and while Burke has gone on to capture both the
British and Commonwealth lightweight crowns, Bradley has suffered two damaging
stoppage losses abroad.

FORMER WBC light-flyweight champion Humberto "Chlqulta" Gonzalez, Neza,
Mexico, tuned up for his rematch with Michael Carbajal in December, but looked
sadly vulnerable, despite winning a loudly booed, ten-round unanimous decision
over Pablo Tiznado, Sinaloa, Mexico, at the Great Western Forum.
Gonzalez, ordinarily a brutal, bull-like puncher, fought much of the time going backwards
against the speedy, flailing southpaw. Few expected Tiznado to last the distance, let
alone lose a disputed verdict.

SAN JOSE, California. For over 20 years, Love
Allotey toured the world, using his fists to make a
living. He was mesmerized by the lure of the ring
and captivated his audiences with an unorthodox
style that was his ticket to notoriety.
