THERE can have been no sweeter victory than this.
Paul Hodkinson shrugged himself free of the emotional
shadows of that miserable night in June last year,
when eye injuries wrecked his world title ambitions, by
battering his way to a one-sided revenge over Mexico's
Marcos Villasana at a sellout Maysfield Leisure
Centre.

WORLD class welterweight Crisanto Espana boxed
patiently and eventually hunted down shifty Argentine
Hector Hugo Vilte in seven rounds on the Maysfield
Leisure Centre undercard.

THE experience and left jab of Birmingham's Tony
Swift paved the way for his clear points win over the
previously unbeaten Carlos Chase from Bushey in
Harry Holland's top of the bill six threes light welterweight
contest at the Woughton Centre.
Swift took the opening round with his left hand work
but Chase got back into the fight in the middle rounds,
punching in clusters but never reslly able to maintain
his attacks against the skills of the clever Swift.

THE WBC was quite within its right to refuse to
sanction the fight between Evander Holyfield and
Francesco Damiani, as the Italian was not in their top
ten. On the other hand they have not hesitated in the
past to manipulate their ratings by moving fighters up
immediately to suit the wishes of a promoter, but not
this promoter.
