FRANK BRUNO'S love affair with the British public
switches back to the boxing ring at the Albert Hall on
Wednesday.
Since his fifth round defeat by Mike Tyson for the world
heavyweight title in Las Vegas in February 1989, Bruno has

WITH THE odds stacked heavily against him, Londoner Tim
Driscoll emerged from a small village casino in the Italian-Swiss
alps scarred and bruised, but with his head held high after a spirited
effort to win the WBO featherweight title from Italian Maurizio
Stecca.
While promoters and sanctioning bodies juggle with the ratings
— fighters coming and going in and out of the rankings it appears,
without merit or explanation — the champion gambled on a
voluntary defence that was meant to be easy but was met with
surprise resistance.
On grit, courage and determination, Driscoll had the edge but the
vital qualities of accuracy, skill and top-class experience lifted the
28-year-old champion to his second title defence in his second reign
as champion.

WITH the WBC the WBA continuing their respective bans, South
Africa is not yet a dead issue. Both the IBF and the WBA rate
Pierre Coetzer as their No 2 heavyweight and unless the situation
changes the winner of the Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson fight
could refuse to fight Coetzer with the result of a further split in the
heavyweight title.

LONDON scored an excellent win when they beat a
local side 5-1 with only light-welter Steve Jean-Paul
losing.
Repton's England international Marions, Jones and
Ward, both won on points, over Anders Bokas ar,,i
Wesa Kosku respectively. Bantamweight Jones boxed
very well for his win over a man who won gold in the
recent Tammer tournament, even if he only received a
majority decision.
