MARK ROWE'S official retirement has still to
beannounced. But it isunlikely the popular former
British and Commohwealth middleweight
champion will fight again.

MICKEY LAUD, of the St Ives fighting family, is
convinced he can win the British welterweight title'
and will fight anyone who stands in his path.

WE HAVE all read of the brutal battles between
such old timers as Battling Nelson-Ad Wolgast
and Willie Ritchie-Joe Rivers, but it would be
hard to imagine any fight equalling the first,
and for that matter the second, wars between
Carman Basilio and Tony DeMarco.

ROCKY MATTIOLI (10.6f ) who is a one third share-holder in the Australian
welterweight title, outpointed Tongan Pongi Lie (10.7) over 15
rounds in a bout billed as for the vacant Australasiatl welterweight title.

TONY MUNDINE is out and Colombian Rodrigo Valdes steps in to meet
Bennie Briscoe at Noumea on August 18. The fight is made at 11st 61b and
is planned as a 12-round final eliminator for the world title

SOME of the greatest fighters in Europe, indeed the world, have been
produced here in Ireland. The fanatical hordes at the mammoth King's
Hall, with its 15,000 capacity, have exhorted our gladiators to exalted,
and at times seemingly impossible heights.

REPTON can boast the strongest quality line-up in the country. But with
the switch-over to the pro ranks of internationals Maurice Hope, Billy
Taylor and Joey Wreden, some might wonder if the club can maintain its
No 1 position.
