WBO super-middleweight champion Chris Eubank remains
firmly on Nigel Benn's mind after the "Dark,
Destroyer" swept aside pale-skinned, stubby former
Argentinian middleweight champion Hector Lescano
in under three rounds.

STEVE LEWSAM became King of the Humber in
one of the best fights seen in Cleethorpes.
Lewsam, the Midlands area cruiserweight
champion, edged the verdict by a half-point in a
non-title eight rounder against Hull's TONY
BOOTH at the Winter Gardens.

FORMER British and European light-heavyweight
champion Tom C o l l i n s looked all of his 36 years as he
was boxed to a standstill by clever German southpaw
Henry Maske in front of a 2,128 crowd at the Philips
Hall.

A SHAMEFUL decision against heavyweight Paul Lawson in
the final contest of the evening deprived England of a deserved
victory against Denmark as they drew 6-6 before a small crowd
at the Bletchley Leisure Centre.
Quite how two of the three judges - presumably the two
Danes whose turn it was to have the judging majority -
managed to see Mark Hulstrom ahead after he had been
systematically outboxed for the entire nine minutes is a
mystery.

THE LAST meeting before Christmas of the London
Ex-Boxers' Association was quite a festive occasion.
Chairman Micky O'Sullivan entered into the spirit of
things, donning his Santa Claus hat, telling a joke or two
and giving a reasonable impression of comedian
Norman Wisdom. Among the guests were one or two we
don't see often, including Mark Hart, Joe Falcon, Ron
King, Peter Cragg, Bob Longhurst and Alf Bliss, one of
the large Croydon contingent.

FOR the second time within a month
Shaun "The Guvnor" Cummins
enjoyed an early night in front of hometown
fans at the Mallard Park Hotel
when he topped the bill on Kevin
Sanders' promotion.

BIRMINGHAM light-welter Shaun Cogan
returned after a five month break and was
forced to battle all the way for a decision over
Hull's reliable Steve Pollard. It was his 10th
straight win.

THE STEADY trickle of comebacks continue. Recently
we have had Eusebio Pedroza and Frank Bruno, and
last month a couple of former world champions
returned.
In Gary, Indiana, at the Genisis Convention Centre
Leon Spinks had his first fight for three years as he
stopped Lupe Guerra in three rounds. "Neon" Leon is
now 38 but needs the money.
That show was on November 15, but Carlos Santos
beat Leon to it. On October 30, in San Juan, the
36-year-old former IBF light-middleweight champion
won a unanimous decision over Brinaty Maquilon.
Carlos weighed l i s t 81b. Maquilon holds a win over
Buster Drayon but has lost six of his last seven fights.
