RALPH CHARLES, former British, Commonwealth and European welterweight
champion, has announced his retirement. Charles hasn't fought since being
knocked out in seven rounds when challenging Jose Napoles for the world title
at Wembley in March last year.

UNDEFEATED Larry Paul, Wolverhampton (11-0)
celebrated his 21st birthday by comfortably outscoring
Scottish middleweight champion Don
McMillan, Glasgow (11-5) over eight rounds at the
Civic Hall.

UNBEATEN Eastleigh middleweight Jan Magdziarz left it
late before making sure of his sixth inside-tlie-distance
victory in eight paid contests when he knocked out
Doncaster's Johnny Rushton just 41 seconds from the end
of the e i g h th and final round at t h e Guildhall.

FEW return matches can have been awaited more
eagerly by British fans than that between hard-hitting
welters Peter Cragg and Ivan Whiter. The impatient
public had to wait 11 months for the second
instalment of this one: and when it came, everyone
agreed that it had been well worth waiting for.

SOUTH AFRICAN light-heavyweight champion Pierre Fourie, who now looks
