WHEN California's Danny Lopez gets into the ring the accent is on action.
Danny is a 20-year-old banger currently ranked high among the
featherweight contenders.

PROMOTER Harry Levene is convinced he has one of the best
box-office draws in young John Conteh. Levene, who presents the
22-year-old Liverpool light-heavyweight champion of Europe,
Britain and the Commonwealth at Wembley on September 10
reckons Conteh sells more tickets than did Billy Walker and
myself when we were at our peak.

LARRY PAUL, the Wolverhampton destroyer,
meets Bobby Arthur of Coventry at Wolverhampton
on September 25 to decide the first-ever lightmiddleweight
championship of Great Britain.

A TIP of the hat to one of the real veterans in this
boxing business, Bill Gore, who just turned 84 years
young. He celebrated his birthday by reopening the
Tampa Boxing Gym in Tampa, Fla.

WILLY ZELLER, Austrian promoter and manager of former
European welterweight champion, Hans Orsolics, is
seeking to match his boxer with world junior middleweight
champion Koichi Wajima, of Japan, in Vienna on
October 16.

WBC lightweight champion Rodolfo Gonzalez seems a sure bet to hold
on to his slender piece of the world championship when he meets European
champion Antonio Puddu, of Italy, tomorrow (Saturday) at the Los
Angeles Sports Arena.

EDUARDO CORLETTI first impressed himself on
British fight people — and in no uncertain manner
— on an August evening in 1965, when he had been
campaigning professionally for nearly five years
without actually blazing a name for himself in the
heavyweight ratings.

PAT McCANN, the Southern Area light-heavyweight
champion, is setting his sights high this
season.

WITH Merseyside fighters making a considerable
impact on the National scene, it is
surprising that only one Liverpool fighter is
included in the England Under - 19 team
for the two matches in West Germany on
August 31 and September 2.
