Western Counties (North) Divisional ABA championships

DUKE McKENZIE, the former IBF flyweight champion, had
an undemanding night outclassing and stopping Texican
target J u l io Blanco in seven one-sided rounds at the
Town Hall. Referee Dave Parris decided that Blanco, from
San Antonio, had seen enough at the one minute 17 second
mark with Blanco taking stick near his own corner - and
he could not have been faulted if he had acted a couple of
rounds earlier.

BRITISH light-middleweight title contender Andy
Till, from Northolt, kept himself on course for a
crack at the domestic crown with an emphatic and
lop-sided 80-76 points win over the brave Alan
Richards, from Barry Island. Till showed the sort of
form that wins titles as referee Larry O'Connell
completed the mere formality of raising his hand
after their eight threes main event.

FOR Sugar Ray Leonard, once the finest fighter of his
generation, the Garden party turned into a wake as
23-year-old Terry Norris used the insurmountable advantage
of youth to harass and harry him to an overwhelming
12-round points defeat in defence of the WBC lightmiddleweight
title.

PLYMOUTH — Februray 2: Torbay's
George Nicette caused the biggest upset
in the Western Counties ABA championships
at the Tamarside Sports Centte
when he stopped defending bantam champion
Peter Dytham in three rounds.
Nicette, from a famous fighting family,
proved just too hot, forcing Weymouth's
Dytham to take two standing counts before
it was called off.
