HENRY COOPER has occupied
the British heavyweight
throne for so long that
he is almost a fixture. Nine
years he's sat there and dealt
with challenger after challenger.
He's been trimming
'em up almost like a barber.
And Henry's no chicken.
He celebrated his 34th birthday
in May. But he's still a
lot too good for any of the
young pretenders to the
throne.
Since taking the crown by
handing out a boxing lesson to
Brian London in January, 1959,
the champ has checked nine
attempts to shift him.
BRITISH champions Alan
Rudkin and Johnny Pritchett
kept their world title hopes alive
with convincing wins over imported
opponents on the Anglo-
American Sporting Club bill at the
Hilton Hotel, London.
RECENT TV films have
featured three former
great fighters. In The
Hustler (BBC-1) was former
World middleweight
champion Jake LaMotta
and in Carry On, Constable
(ITV) was former
World cruiser champ, the
late Freddie Mills and
former British lightweight
title-holder Eric Boon.
