WITH his latest challenger Ralph Charles, the Southern
Area champion, of West Ham, sizing him up from the
ringside, Johnny Cooke, the British and Empire welter champion,
of Bootle, turned in a competent and impressive display
in outpointing Fred Powney, of Doncaster, in the chief ten
rounds contest at the stadium.

ALAN RUDKIN, Liverpool
(8-8-2), former British and
Empire bantamweight champion,
who plans a fight a
month in his campaign to
again reach the top flight,
scored a convincing points
win over ten rounds against
Pomchai Poppraigam, Thailand
bantam champion, at the
Ice Stadium.

SCOTTISH ABA have turned down an invitation to meet a German
team in West Berlin on January 27, because they are due
to face England at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on January 25.
The time factor was too short so the Scots had to decline the
offer, much as they would have liked to accept.
The Germans, however, may repeat the offer later and give the
Scots alternative dates to choose from.
