Britain lost her only World's title ot Boston on Saturday, when Paul Pender regained
the middleweight crown from Terry Downes.
SAMMY McSPADDEN. tne 20-year-okd f-ulham-based Scottish lightweight,
has been signed up by promoter Peter Keenan to top the bill
in an eight rounder against former French lightweight champion Manuel
Sosa at Hamilton Town Hall on April 26.
THE old jinx still remains.
No British-born boxer
has ever brought a World's
title out of America, and
although giving everything
he had, Terry Downes failed
to become the first to do so
at Boston last Saturday,
when he lost his World
middleweight title to former
holder Paul Pender on points
over 15 rounds. Terry said
afterwards "I thought I had
won. Pender did a lot
of holding and wasn't
cautioned." It is indeed true
that the Yank was allowed
to clutch and grab whenever
it suited him to do so.
