STUART HALL will make the first
defence of his IBF bantamweight
belt against local rival Martin
Ward, 18-2 (4), on March 29 at
Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena.
"I'm taking Martin Ward seriously
because this could be the biggest
banana skin of my career if I slip
up against him," said Darlington's
Hall. "He's a tricky southpaw, but
I've just beaten two of the best
southpaws in the world [in Sergio
Perales and Vusl Mallnga].
"I'm going to take care of
business and keep hold of my title."
On February 5, Hall was named
the North East Sports Personality
of the Year thanks to his Rockystyle
coronation against Malinga in
December.

FORMER WBA lightweight
champion Ray "Boom Boom"
Mancini was the guest of honour
at American Cancer Society's
boxing-themed charity dinner
dance on February 1 at Palm
Beach, Florida. The retired fighter's
contributions to the charity were
recognised by event chairman
Donald Trump, and a regulation-size
boxing ring served as a bandstand
for the evening.

JEAN PASCAL is open to a third fight with
Bernard Hopkins, a rematch with Carl
Froch, and a showdown with Canadian
riuai Adonis Stevenson. And if aliens
invade earth in the meantime, he'll take
them on too.
The former WBC light-heavyweight
champion's status plummeted in 2 0 11
when he lost his title to Hopkins after
the pair had fought to a draw the year
before. Pascal's recent victory over local
rival Lucian Bute has revitalised his
reputation, but the Haiti-born Canadian
insists losing to Hopkins - almost 18 years
his senior - left no scars.

THE best bout was the last when
the Greyhound Stadium Social Club
hosted the London/Eastern Counties
V Southern Counties quarterfinal
of the England Boxing Youth
Championships. West Ham's Ellis
Delaney withstood a late rally from
Jack Stringer to secure a split but
deserved victory at Class B 75kgs.
The solidly built Stringer (Golden
Ring) advanced but didn't move
his head enough and taller Delaney
caught him with lefts, using good
movement to avoid getting tagged.
By round two Stringer was bleeding
from the nose but the last saw
him produce a big effort as he got
in close against a tiring foe. Both
slammed away in an entertaining
finale, but Delaney had done enough.
