LAMONT PETERSON boxes for the first
time in 14 months against Kendall Holt on
February 22. The 29-year-old will defend
the IBF light-welterweight
title that he won from
Britain's Amir Khan back
in December 2011.
Peterson subsequently
failed a drugs test while
preparing for a rematch
with Khan, a fight which
was later cancelled due
to the positive for synthetic testosterone.
Nevertheless, he is not concerned with
any possible adverse reactions from the
public.
"I'm not worried at all at this point,"
Peterson stated.

FORMER WBO super-middleweight
titllst Karoly Balzsay has retired at
the age of 33, citing injury problems
and Universum's financial situation.
The Hungarian southpaw last
fought in April 2012, impressively
beating Dimitri Sartison for the
regular WBA belt.
He holds a degree in sports
management, is currently involved
in a children's training programme,
and is happy that he's leaving
boxing at the right time.

Deptford lightweight
Graham Brett, who
had four bouts in
1983-84, has been
charged with murder
after delivering a
single blow that
killed an Australian
man. The incident
happened in August
Z012 outside a pub
in Pimlico, London
and the victim died
five days after
taking the punch.
Brett denies murder
and will stand trial
at the Old Bailey on
February 18.

KNOWSLEY Vale's inaugural event
of 2013 earned the Kirkby club
plenty of in-ring success. Standout
performer was the hosts' Tom
Simpson, who made an impressive
return following a lengthy absence.
A stinging body shot in the
opener froze Birch Green's Colin
Day and he was unable to avoid
the following uppercut that floored
him. Day rose gallantly and tried to
answer every Simpson attack but
was coming unstuck. More heavy
attacks followed but Day hung on to
hear the final bell.
