DAVID HAVE
has re-applied to the
British Boxing Board
of Control for his
licence to box. Haye,
who boxed under a
Luxembourg licence
against Dereck
Chisora last June, has
been interviewed
by officials and just
needs to pass his
medicals before he is
once again approved
for action in Britain.

HEAUYWEICHT
contender Manuel
Charr continues his
quest for another
title shot when
he returns to the
ring on February
ZZ against limited
Yakup Saglam
in Romania. Two
months after losing
to Vitali Klitschko
in September, Charr
beat Konstantin
Airich in a round.

FORMER world bantamweight
champion Jesus "Chucho" Castillo
of Mexico has passed away after a
heart attack, aged 68.
After losing his 1962 debut,
"Chucho" developed into a
consummate technician, a proficient
jabber and accurate counterpuncher
with both hands. He was capable
of fighting at close quarters just
as well, and earned victories
over former or future world title
challengers such as Jesus Pimentel,
Jose Medel, Rogelio Lara, Raul Cruz
and Bernardo Carabalio.

THE rivalry between Andrew Selby
and Michael Conlan will run on.
Their second battle took place when
the British Lionhearts hosted the
USA Knockouts at York Hall in the
World Series of Boxing.
The WSB is a team-based league
so Ireland's Conlan can box for the
American franchise. This hybrid
concept meant the two boxed at
54 kgs over five rounds, without
headguards or vests under a
professional-style, 10-points must
scoring system.

IRELAND'S 2 0 1 3 National Elite
championships begin at the National
Stadium in Dublin on February 8.
They will continue there on the 9th,
15th and 16th before the finals are
held at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin
on February 22.
Moate BC teenager Joe Ward,
who has beaten Beijing silver
medalist Kenneth Egan in two
consecutive light-heavy finals, is
gearing up to defend his title.
