BACK HOME after successfully defending his world
middleweight title against Nino Benvenuti in Monte Carlo,
Argentinian Carlos Monzon is looking forward to his next
defence. Naturally it is hoped that this will be in Buenos
Aires, and the obvious opponent is former title-holder
Emile Griffith. But the biggest problem is money- Both
boxers will want large purses, and the Argentinian government
may assist the promoter with financial help. If this
does materialise, the likely date is sometime in September.

ENGLAND lightweight Brian Harding (St.
George's) bade farewell to the amateur ranks
on his club's dinner-show at the Horseshoe
Restaurant, Tottenham Court Road, by outpointing
ABA semi-finalist Dave Raworth
(Immingham) on May 12.
Now Harding will go pro with East End
manager Terry Lawless, who reveals that
Brian will box in the featherweight division.
Harding trained with the Lawless stable before
meeting Raworth.
A former NABC and National Schools
champion, Harding boxed for England against
Ulster, Poland and Ireland and won for London
ABA in Hamburg last February.

IRISH welterweight champion Des Rea, former holder of the
now defunct British junior welter title, attempts to re-establish
himself at the New Century Hall, Manchester, on Monday when
he takes on Hemsworth's own hero Les Pearson.
But at the end of the evening, Rea may find himself in an
even stickier patch with yet another blot on his sequence of
four defeats in his last four fights, to Joseph Bessala in Paris,
Bernie Terrell at Bloomsbury, Alan Tottoh at the National Sporting
Club, and Brendan Jackson in Melbourne. It will be Des's
first fight since February.
Pearson has not fought since his Australian campaign which
ended in March with two wins in three fights.
To the Irish fighter, who boasts only three wins in eight
bouts, this is a vital fight. If he hopes to stay in top company
he must look good.
