heavyweight
contender David
Tua, out of action
since losing to Monte
Barrett in 2011,
has signed to face
Alexander Ustinov
at Claudelands Arena
in Hamilton, New
Zealand on August
31.WBC champion,
Vitali Klitschko, has
said he'd be willing
to face Tua If he
wins.
THE proposed heavyweight
showdown between domestic rivals
David Haye and Tyson Fury
continues to generate publicity.
Although it was thought a deal
was close to stage the fight in the
Autumn, the pair have reportedly
failed to meet an agreement after
Fury demanded an 80-20 purse
split, while Haye was willing to
settle for 50-50.
Whether the fight has
indeed collapsed or if this is the
latest chapter in a complicated
promotional tale, remains to be
seen.
RICKY BURNS will defend his
WBO lightweight title against
Raymundo Beltran on September
7 at Glasgow's Scottish Exhibition
and Conference Centre. It will be
the Scot's first outing since he
came through a torrid defence
against Jose Gonzalez in May
Meanwhile, Beltran victim Henry
Lundy looks to get back into
contention at light-welterweight
when he takes on Ajose Olusegun
on ESPN on July 19.
DERRY MATHEWS has taken his training
camp to Scotland as he prepares to fight
for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight
title in Hull against local man Tommy
Coyle. Now that his trainer, Danny
Vaughan, has moved north of the border.
Derry has left the comforts of home but
has availed himself of top-quality sparring
with WBO champion Ricky Burns.
"I couldn't ask for better than that.
Sparring a world champion can only bring
the best out of me," said Mathews. "For
this fight we spent a lot of time in Malta
as well. We've done a few weeks,
GENARO GARCIA. 35 and a three
time 'world' title challenger has
been murdered in San Lorenzo,
Puebia, Mexico. He last fought
in December last year, beating
Eduardo Garcia in seven rounds,
to take his record to 39-10 (23).
He scored wins over the likes
of Rafael Marquez and Victor
Rabanales but lost to Hozumi
Hasegawa, Luis Alberto Perez, and
Toshiaki Nishioka while challenging
for major belts at bantamweight
and super-bantamweight.
