JEREMIAH MOEN, an amateur superheavyweight
from North Dakota,
has died after collapsing during a
Golden Gloves fight in East Grand
Forks, Minnesota. According to the
Grand Forks Herald, Moen died on
February 20 and his family learned
that the 29-year-old had "serious
trauma" to his brain from previous
injuries, including concussions.
He was a regional Golden Gloves
regional champion in 2012,

ACCORDING to his advisor Michael
Koncz, Manny Pacquiao's next fight
will not take place in the USA due to
the 40 per cent tax rate.

West Wirrall's Keiran Sutton and
Tower Hill's Calium Thompson,
while a worthy candidate for bout
of the afternoon was the all-action
52 kgs, Class 3 clash between
Rotunda's Daniel Stringer and
Alex Clegg of the Ashton Albion
club. Stringer emerging victorious
with a majority decision.
Sunday afternoon's crowd, while
smaller than the previous day,
was treated to several particularly
impressive performances, none
more so than those from Shildon's
James Meekin (44 kgs. Class
1), Brodsworth southpaw John
Johnstone (50 kgs. Class 1),
Kirbky's Connor Butler (40 kgs.
Class 3) and Kettering School of
Boxing representative William
McCann (63 kgs. Class 3), all of
whom made it through to the final
thanks to stoppage victories.

JOE WARD is undoubtedly the
great new hope of Irish amateur
boxing. At just 19 and with a
strength and poise beyond his
tender years the Moate clubman
beat Neilstown's Ken Ggan for
the third time in a row, prompting
the 31-year-old 2008 Olympic
silver medallist to announce his
retirement.
