WALES traveled to the Downhill

take on Ireland in a schoolboy/youth
international on September 30
but their Irish hosts won the team
event 10-3 overall. Wales' Evan
Jones and Dominic Bradley at 37
kgs combined for the bout of the
night. Though the latter won 14-13,
Jones received the Best Away Boxer
award. Best Home Boxer was Jamie
Conroy, who outpointed Tliomas
Lewis 14-7 at 45 kgs,
THE EUROPEAN Schoolboys
championships concluded on October
6 in Anapa, Russia. England returned
with two bronze medals, courtesy
of Birtley's Mark Dickinson and
Birkenhead Venture's Freddy
Young. They both lost to Russian
boxers in the semi-finals. Young
edged 8-6 by Viktor Saunin,
while Maxim Bezmaternyli beat
Dickinson 17-6.
