IT has been confirmed that former
WBC super-middleweight champion
Robin Reid will challenge South
Africa's William Care for the
lighty-regarded WBF 12st strap on
August 17 in an open air arena in
Malta. The "Grim Reaper" is looking
forward to the test.
"The WBF super-middleweight
title isn't the most prestigious of
belts, but I'm 41 now," Reid said.
"I've been there and done it. It's
a step in the right direction for
me. Who knows, if I win this title
and make a couple of defences,
something else might crop up. I'm
totally looking forward to it.
"Gare's going to be a tough,
durable opponent. The South
Africans always are. He's been in
with some good fighters and he's
got a lot of experience. He'll be
coming to fight, but I'll be ready
for him."
CARL FROCH and Lucian Bute
are on a collision course for a
rematch in Montreal next year. "The
Cobra" destroyed Bute inside the
Nottingham Arena in May and the
severity of the beating led most to
believe the Romanian would not
pursue the contracted rematch.
However, Bute has decided he
wants a chance to regain his IBF
12st title and will take part in a
warm-up bout in November, while
Froch defends his crown in the
UK the same month. If both come
through the bouts unscathed, they
will meet for a sequel in March.
NEVADA'S Attorney General could
not find anything "illegal" about
Timothy Bradley's controversial
victory over Manny Pacquiao on
June 9. Catherine Cortez Masto
interviewed referee Robert Byrd,
gaming officials and Nevada State
Athletic Commission's Keith Kizer
before coming to the conclusion
that there was no wrongdoing.
"Displeasure with the subjective
decisions of sporting officials is not
a sufficient basis for this office to
initiate a criminal investigation,"
Masto's letter to Top Rank's Bob
Arum'read. "There do not appear to
be an? facts or evidence to indicate
that a criminal violation occurred."
Masto's aide released a statement
saying the matter is now closed.
