THE legal row between heavyweight
contender DAVID TUA and his
former managers, Kevin Barry and
Martin Pugh, could be over after it
was reported the Samoan slugger
had taken half of the $7.5 million
(AUS) at the centre of the dispute.
The three men have been
battling it out in the High Court in
Auckland before a solution was
apparently found to end the sixyear
quarrel.
It was set to go to trial in 2010
and had already cost millions in
legal fees, reported the New
Zealand Herald. The hearing was
closed to the media and the public.
Tua, who is thought to have
earned around $20m and owned a
beachfront pad worth $10.25m, is
believed to be heavily in debt,
mostly due to legal fees.

GRITTY Dubliner Oisin Fagan may
never fulfil every boxer's dream of a
world title shot but his name on a fight
card guarantees action.
Nine weeks short of his 36th
birthday, the former Irish light-welter
champion produced another stirring
display with a 58-56 win over London
southpaw journeyman Johnny
Greaves over six rounds at the
National Stadium.
Fagan. billed as "Gael Force", stormed
into action straight away, using a strong
left hook and follow-through rights to
keep control. Using his familiar
crouching style, he kept on the attack
through the second, though he went to
his corner with a bruise over his right
eye. It never bothered him and while
Greaves, 2-39 (1), had a good third
round when he caught
the advancing
Dubliner with solid left
hooks to the head.
Fagan, 25-7 (15), was
in control.

TYNE, Tees & Wear beat the Army 5-3
on a well-organised show in front of
over 1,200 at Catterick Barracks on
October 22.
However, it could have been a 4-4
draw if soldier J i m m y R a n d l e had not
lost what Army coach Tony Davis felt
was an "unlucky" decision to banger
J o h n B a x t e r (Phil Thomas School of
Boxing). This was over 4 x 2s at 65 kgs.
The Army winners were first choices
in A d a m Whitfield. G a v M c G e e and
Nikki Gittus.
Whitfield was ABA champion in
2008 and runner-up this year, both at
flyweight. He stepped up to 54 to
outpoint Boldon's Paul Gidney, who
last term reached the ABA semis at
bantam.
