LEE IVIcALLISTER, a creditable loser
to British lightweight champion John
Murray in January, gets a shot at
the vacant Commonwealth title,
against Ghana's GODFREY SOWAH,
on June 19 at the Beach Ballroom
in hometown Aberdeen.
Promoter Tommy Gilmour is
expecting a 1,200 sell-out crowd to
watch McAllister vie with Sowah on
a non-TV show for the belt given up
by Amir Khan.
There will be competition in
Scotland that night, however. Frank
Warren is rumoured to be putting
on a show in Glasgow featuring
RICKY BURNS defending his
Commonwealth super-feather belt
against Salford's STEPHEN FOSTER
JNR.

FRANK MALONEY goes on at Fenton
Manor in Stoke on May 29 and former
Welsh amateur star Kyle Anthony
King (19), one of three fighters the
promoter has just signed, makes his
pro debut on the show. King is trained
and managed by former WBO feather
champion Steve Robinson.
Local hero, and British and
• Commonwealth flyweight champion
Chris Edwards tops the bill, defending
his titles against Derby's Usman
Ahmed. It is a rematch, Edwards
having outpointed the flashy Ahmed
on Usman's 2006 debut.
Stoke's English lightweight boss
Scott Lawton, face Celtic champ Gary
Buckland in a 10-round eliminator for
the British title in the chief support.
Manchester prospect Anthony
Crolla faces Dewsbury's Gary Sykes
oh the show in a 10-round eliminator
for the British super-featherweight title.
This was originally supposed to go
Frank Warren's May 22 bill (see right)
but, having won the purse bids. Warren
returned the fight to the Board and
Maloney secured the match.
A packed undercard features
Olympic bronze medallist Darren
Sutherland, flyweight Ashley
Sexton, Liverpool's former ABA
champion Paul Edwards and former
British bantam king Martin Power.
Maloney has also this week signed
Newcastle's 8-2 (3) heavyweight Dave
Ferguson and South Shields welter
Chris Mullen, 4-1 (2).

POOL OF LIFE held a show at Formby
Hall in Atherton on April 17 and the
late arrival of the substitute doctor did
not detract from an excellent show.
There were a number of tight
majority decisions.
Eleven members of the host squad
appeared with the Fitzmaurice
brothers, Liam (12) and young senior
David, catching the eye.
Liam lost a close, exciting contest
to Newbury and Farnworth youngster
Arron Gray, but showed promise
with his stiff punching.
David's variety and accuracy
proved too much for styUsh southpaw
Nassa Arif (Peniston) in a superb
bout.
A hard-punching affair saw
Sandygate's Joe Wilkinson edge a
majority decision over Schools semifinalist
Taylor Walker from the hosts.
Busy 12-year-old Kelton Croft,
having his 14th contest in just over a
year, used his strength and aggression
to overcome one of the fighting
Furys, Walter from Skerton ABC,
Lancaster.
