INJURIES have struck two good
fights off the fistic calender in the
US. First this weekend's EDNER
CHERRY-ANTHONY PETERSON
light-welter match - on the Cotto-
Jennings bill - was called off, the
latter suffering from a knee injury.
Then, more significantly, IBF
light-heavyweight champion CHAD
DAWSON suffered a hairline
fracture of his right hand and was
forced to withdraw from his March
14 rematch with the man he won
the title from, ANTONIO TARVER.
It is thought both fights will be
rescheduled.

THE United States promotional tour
for Ricky Hatton's May 2 clash with
Manny Pacquiao has been cancelled
in order to give the boxers more time
to prepare properly.
The boxers are scheduled to visit
London and Manchester early next
month and will appear in Los Angeles
in late March. But appearances in New
York and San Francisco have been
scrapped.
Hatton will reportedly do two weeks
training in England before going to Las
Vegas to work under Floyd Mayweather
Snr. Pacquiao, as usual, will train at
Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in
HollywoodrCalifornia.
Roach has admitted he sees this
being a more difficult fight for
Pacquiao than Oscar De La Hoya.
"Ricky comes in with his shoulders,
elbows and combinations," he said. "It's
going to be tough for six rounds."

GRAHAM EARL has reversed his
decision to reture, made shortly
after he was stopped in a round
- for the second time in succession
- by Henry Castle in October.
Luton's career lightweight,
still only 30, insists he will be a
different man at light-welter.
"I was a little bit hasty," he said.
"I don't want to look back in six
years and kick myself. I know I've
still got it.
"I always spar between lOst and
lOst 4lbs and I'm really sharp and
strong then. I'd like to be out by
May at the latest."
Earl worryingly insists both
the Castle fight and his previous
drubbing - by Amir Khan - were
stopped too early, but did say, "If
everything goes right In preparation
and I'm still not good at light-welter,
I'll pack it in for good."
Earl also revealed that he would
likely take on a new trainer, though
James Paisley would remain
involved.

REPTON returned from a box cup
in Norway last weekend (February
13-15) with a medal for each of
their 11 boxers.
Of the six juniors, five won
gold - MARK BAKER (who was
named Best Junior Boxer of the
Tournament), CALLUM CHANNING,
TOM BUCKLEY, PERRY LOVEJOY
and SAM DIGHTON.
Junior CONNOR PACKMAN had to
settle for silver.
Three of the five seniors won
gold. Welter LEE NEWMAN stopped
both his opponents, while winning
their bout on points were lightweight
MICHAEL MCCARTHY and
light-welter LUKE TURNER.
Welter MICHAEL CHANNING and
middleweight FRANK BUGUONE
had to make do with silver after
they lost what head coach Tony
Burns called "funny decisions".
Hot prospect Martin Ward was
set for his first bout up at bantam
but found that no one would box
him.
Said Burns, "There was a
featherweight from Portsmouth
there, but even he wouldn't have it."
Repton maintain their busy
schedule with two events this
weekend.
Tonight (Friday February 20)
they host Sunderland ABC on a
dinner show at the former Epping
Forest Country Club.
Seniors in action are Channing,
Buglione, McCarthy, Turner and
Novices finalist (middleweight in
Class A) MICHAEL NORGROVE.
Tomorrow (Sat 21st) Repton
have 15 boxers in the London
NACYP finals at York Hall.
